The Lord of the Rings

August 15th:

Today I attended a Lord of the Rings extended edition movie marathon at my friend E's house. I came late, about half way through The Fellowship of the Ring (when they enter Lothlorian), but coming late was okay with me because I was still so tired from yesterday's trip.

Rewatching these three movies has reminded me of why I love them so much: the characters and the music. Sure, plot is amazing, but what really gets me are the characters and the amazing soundtrack! I have all three of the movies' soundtracks (hopefully soon to be joined by The Hobbit's first soundtrack!), and I actually listen to them a considerable amount! I know most of the words to those songs with lyrics, my favorite being The Steward of Gondor where Pippin sings. ADORATION right there.

I also super love the characters. Even Frodo, the most unlovable character. Okay, yes, this is a lie. I do not love ALL the characters. WHO could love Denethor the last steward of Gondor?! Or Sauron. Or Saruman. Or worm tongue. Or Gollum/Sméagol. Or the Witch-King of Angmar. The list goes on. But those aren't characters we're SUPPOSED to like anyway, so I don't count them. I LOVE Pippin the most. And Aragorn. And Legolas. Even though his last name is Greenleaf, which is totally cheesy.

Usually when I'm not watching with a crowd I cry a couple times - especially at the end.

Galadriel:
"I give you the light of Eärendil, our most beloved star. May it be a light for you in dark places, when all other lights go out."
"I have passed the test. I will diminish, and go into the West, and remain Galadriel."

Frodo: "No, Sam. I can't recall the taste of food... nor the sound of water... nor the touch of grass. I'm... naked in the dark, with nothing, no veil... between me... and the wheel of fire! I can see him... with my waking eyes!"
Sam: "Then let us be rid of it... once and for all! Come on, Mr. Frodo. I can't carry it for you... but I can carry you!"

Sam: "What we need is a few good taters."
Gollum: "What's taters, precious? What's taters, eh?"
Sam: "*Po-tay-toes!* Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew..."

Frodo: "Go back, Sam. I'm going to Mordor alone."
Sam: "Of course you are. And I'm coming with you."

Gandalf: "Confound it all, Samwise Gamgee. Have you been eavesdropping?"
Sam: "I ain't been droppin' no eaves sir, honest."
