Back from Bass

August 10th-12th:

I just got back from a long weekend with some friends at Bass Lake and am extremely tired and sore so this will probably be a short post.

August 10th: "Inner-tubing"

Today I went inner-tubing for the first time in my life. I always thought it sounded really fun, so I was really looking forward to my first try.

Before taking my turn, I watched two other "runs" and became sufficiently freaked out. The speed at which the tubes moved was terrifying (we had two going at once, so a total of four people COULD go at a time); the violence of the waves and falls looked extremely scary; and the pain that was caused both by the bumpy wakes, rough falls, and clutching for one's life were all great deterrents.

Luckily, I didn't let my fear stop me from going! I actually got to go with someone else who was equally scared although he had gone before, so I didn't feel like a total wimp.

I actually lasted pretty long before falling off and went for more consecutive runs than anyone else (I think...). All the guys were impressed by my vitality and endurance.

Overall my inner-tubing experience was superb and I would recommend the sport to everyone!

Ps. I am in oodles of pain from my two days of inner-tubing. Muscles scream, neck shrieks, and skin screeches. Despite the pain, I still recommend it! :)

August 11th: "Ending the Day with God"

After dinner every night, one or two people read a chapter out of the Bible of their choice. Some were favorites, others random. Mine was merely the next chapter I was going to read as I go through the entire Bible (2 Samuel 17, I believe). We would sit at the dining room table after clearing it, and read the verse then talk about it. Questions were brought up, answers offered, and the following conversation never failed to be interesting, engaging, and uplifting.

We would usually spend about thirty to forty-five minutes talking and then we ended the time with prayer. The first two nights we did extensive prayer requests and popcorned. I found this time to be the most rewarding of all my time at the cabin as it brought us all together and nourished our spirits in Christ.

Does your family have any sort of tradition like this? We got the idea from one of the cabin-goers whose family does this every night after dinner. Such a great way to end the day - with God.

August 12th: "Seven Wonders"

This weekend I learned how to play the card/board game "7 Wonders". I had seen people playing it before, but figured I knew enough games and didn't want to take the time to learn another one. I wish I had learned sooner! Seven Wonders is a very interesting game based on the idea of resources and building in order to have the most points at the end of the game. I would try to explain it to you more, but that would be boring and pointless. Go read the rule book or something.

If you know how to play - we should have a "7 Wonders" game night. You'l have to bring the game, as I do not have it.

If you don't know how to play - come to our party and we'll teach you. :)

I am glad to be home at last. Keep it classy!
