Performing on Stage

August 28th:

Anybody who knows me also knows that I HATE performing on stage or in front of large audiences and thus would never ever ever audition for anything because even the audition is terrifying for me. Stage fright much? Yeah.

Despite my fear of performing, there are many things that I would love to do that are, well, performances. I would love to join a band and sing lead vocals. I would love to have an awesome singing (but no dancing, ugh!) role in a musical - like, say, Les Miserables, or Wicked. Those things sound SO awesome and fun, but even just thinking about them tenses me up. Even leading worship at my high school youth group was way too stressful for me.

I'd say 60% of my good friends are (or were in high school) performers. Musical Theatre. Normal(?) Theatre. Show Choir. Vocal Lessons (and the mini concerts/competitions they come with). The other 40% either did tech or had some other way of supporting the arts. I only wish I had been into that whole thing when I was in junior high. When I was in elementary school I was involved in church plays and I did CMT (Christian Music Theatre), but for some reason, that on-stage confidence fled me as soon as I entered middle school and has hidden since. I wonder if there is some UN-TORTUROUS way to conquer that fear.

A friend of mine is auditioning for her college's production of Les Miserables tomorrow and I'm cheering her on from back at home, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that I was a tad bit jealous of her opportunity to shine ;)

Any advice (other than, "just face your fear!")? Do you have stage fright? Do you perchance perform?

:) Buh bye!

Keep it classy~
