July 6th:
Or, the flea market. Whatever. :)
Every first saturday of the month the De Anza Flea Market blesses the citizens of the bay area with hundreds of funky little unique selections of "treasure". Most of the stuff sold is junk or overpriced, however there are always those perfectly hidden pots of gold where one can find extremely cheap earrings, craft supplies, or art (among other things). I love going with my mom and/or my friends, and since I hadn't gone in, I think, more than half a year, I thought it was time to darken the doorstep of De Anza. Oh boy, am I glad I went!
I got a boatload of fun little things including jewelry and things that I am using for DIYs, but my absolute favorite purchase of the day was a 1970s Olivetti Lettera 35 Taupe Portable Typewriter. Fully functional and in good shape, the woman who I bought it from had taken it apart and painted the ugly tan metal casing a very pretty turquoise. I named her Tracy, because I feel like that's a good name for the 70s, and it just sorta fit her.. :) I'm extremely happy with that purchase.
Another of my favorite purchases was two empty picture frames for $.25 each. I took them home, painted them to match my bedroom, and soon will be filling the space usually taken up by the photo, glass, and cardboard backing with either lace, lace ribbon, or chicken wire. I'm going to use them as earring displays to hang on my wall. I love DIYs!!!
I encourage you, if you have never gone, to go to the next De Anza Flea Market (or any other flea market). One can really find awesome stuff, and if you're good, you can get it cheap by talking the seller down! Have fun shopping (digging?), and keep it classy!
