July 4th:
Happy Independence Day! No, I don't say "Happy 4th of July!" To me, that is the same as saying "Happy 7th of July!" or "Happy 26th of February!" Simplifying Independence Day down to a date is a huge problem in America (in my opinion).
At least with the name Independence Day, one takes a moment to consider our independence from Britain, or at least the word independence and what it means to said person personally. With the title "the 4th of July" the only things that come to mind are: BBQs, fireworks, redwhiteblue, and family/friends. I get that those are a part of CELEBRATING Independence Day, but that's not what the holiday is supposed to be ABOUT! Patriotism isn't wearing red, white, and blue or hosting a picnic. Patriotism is supporting and celebrating what, as a country, our forefathers accomplished as they sought freedom from Britain.

So, I hope you have/had a wonderful Independence Day! I personally spent a good portion of the day with my friend E, having a picnic at Rancho San Antonio and then attending her party in the evening. We biked the Stevens Creek Trail and were almost UNDER the Shoreline fireworks. That was the closest I have EVER been to the fireworks. We could see where they were shooting them off and when, occasionally, they hit the ground! Very exciting!
Well, I hope you're not too tired today from whatever celebration you partook of! Keep it classy!!!
